As CES draws thousands of visitors to Las Vegas this week, officials at Harry Reid International Airport are reminded of an urgent reality: The complex must evolve to meet growing demands.

With facilities across the roughly 2,800-acre airport showing their age, the Clark County Aviation Department has focused on enhancing the airport to “maximize the efficiency and ability to support” operations, said James Chrisley, Clark County’s director of aviation.

The stakes are high.

By 2033, the airport is “projected to be severely capacity constrained,” and officials warn that the airport is steadily approaching its estimated capacity of 65 million passengers annually. That’s why over the coming decade, county officials will launch a large-scale modernization effort designed to accommodate continued passenger growth and position Las Vegas for the future.
