An application for a 24-hour casino in West London was rejected by authorities in a ‘victory’ for locals who warned it would have turned their high street into a “mini Las Vegas”.
Kensington and Chelsea Council’s councillors voted unanimously against increasing Admiral Casino’s opening hours for its Earl’s Court Road shop saying it would cause noise disturbance to those living nearby. Earl’s Court Cllr Tim Verboven recused himself from the vote because of his vocal opposition.
Councillors also suggested gambling venues with extended hours were a “risk to the area”. “It’s not just the activity itself, the area is particularly vulnerable to this sort of impact,” planning chair councillor Sam Mackover said during Tuesday night’s planning meeting (October 22).
