The City of Petersburg has officially broken ground for the Live! Casino Resort and Hotel.
Less than a month ago, developers were given the green light for final zoning permits.
In November, about 80% of Petersburg residents voted yes to allow a casino to operate in the city.
The Live! Casino Resort is slated for 92 acres near the intersection of Wagner Road and Brasfield Parkway.
The multi-phased casino and hotel is expected to generate $2.8 billion – including $240 million to the city alone.
In its first 10 years, developers anticipate the casino will bring over 7,500 new construction and permanent jobs.
