Gaming revenue from Rivers Casino Portsmouth is expected help fund health stipends for retirees, a partnership with the Hampton Roads Alliance and other new additions to the proposed fiscal 2024 budget.
Portsmouth city staff presented council members Tuesday with several budget additions and amendments to be funded with casino gaming revenue and investment revenue. Council members agreed to the additions through a “show of hands” consensus vote, but an official vote is still needed. The council is expected to vote on the $834 million spending plan in early May.
The fiscal 2024 proposed budget projects the city will receive $9 million in casino gaming revenue throughout 2023.
