UNLV is partnering with several colleges serving primarily Native American students to prepare graduates for careers in the tribal gaming and hospitality industries.
The university’s William F. Harrah College of Hospitality has established pathways for students at tribal colleges to easily transfer up to two years of credits, or associate degrees, to UNLV, where they can complete bachelor’s degrees with a focus on tribal gaming or hospitality management either in person or online.
UNLV signed the first of these agreements in June with The College of the Muscogee Nation, a community college in Oklahoma. UNLV is in the process of creating similar agreements with tribal colleges in California, Arizona, Montana and another in Oklahoma, said Tammi Tiger, director of the hospitality school’s Tribal Education Initiative.
