Gambling Commission chief executive Andrew Rhodes resigned today (9 February) to take up an as-yet unknown new role.

The leadership transition, effective as of 30 April 2026, marks the end of one of the Commission’s most impactful leaders after a nearly four-year stint in charge of the globally influential regulator.

It follows the Welsh civil servant helping steward the largest set of gambling reforms since the Blair Government, some of which have been controversial in industry, most notably the deeply unpopular affordability checks.

Rhodes said: “It has been a privilege to lead the Gambling Commission through such an important period of change. I am proud of the progress we have made to strengthen regulation, improve consumer protections, and ensure gambling is safer and fairer.”
