Multiple gambling harms charities are facing a funding cliff edge and potential closure after their applications for NHS England treatment funding proved unsuccessful.
The NHS’ decisions on gambling-harm treatment funding were issued to applicants late on Tuesday (31 March), just hours before the new statutory levy came into effect on 1 April.
Under the new funding framework, approximately £120m in compulsory operator contributions will be earmarked for either the research, prevention or treatment of gambling-related harm.
The government departments responsible for commissioning the work and distributing the funds are UKRI for research, the Office for Health Improvement and Disparity (OHID) for prevention, and the NHS for treatment.
