Tensions have risen at Evolution Georgia as a hunger strike by workers reached a critical point. Labor, the trade union behind the strike, reported that one of the participants fell seriously ill and was rushed to hospital by emergency services.
The strike, which began as a protest against low wages and poor working conditions in mid-July, has drawn widespread attention both in Georgia and internationally.
On 13 August, three employees began a hunger strike, citing the company’s refusal to negotiate as the primary reason for their drastic action.
The union has also reported that groups hired by Evolution Georgia allegedly attempted to suppress the protests through violent means.
