Residents both opposed and in favor of The Coney casino — being spearheaded by Thor Equities in its bid to win one of the three downstate casino licenses — packed Thursday’s Zoning and Franchise Subcommittee meeting on the project to air their hopes and fears. City Council Member Justin Brannan, who was at the hearing, also faced tough questions around his relationship with lobbyist Patricia Lynch, who is both supporting his Comptroller campaign and working for The Coney.

Thor Equities, which owns a number of properties in Coney Island, is looking to demap Bowery Street between Stillwell Avenue, a portion of Stillwell Avenue between Surf Avenue and Wonder Wheel Way, volumes of air within Stillwell Avenue between Bowery and Wonder Wheel Way to make space for The Coney.
