Dutch gambling providers are failing to intervene effectively when players show signs of addiction, according to a new study by the Netherlands Gambling Authority (KSA) and self-help organization AGOG.
AGOG offers meetings and support to those suffering gambling harm and others affected by it.
The survey, conducted among AGOG participants in autumn 2024, found that 68% of respondents were never personally approached by a gambling operator about their behavior, and 83% were never issued a playing or entry ban. Among those who were, half simply switched to another gambling site — highlighting major gaps in enforcement and protection.
The study gathered responses from 139 individuals, representing 70% of AGOG’s support group participants at the time.
