Sports gambling has never been easier, but the consequences have significantly increased after the Oregon Lottery made the switch to a popular betting app, DraftKings.
“We started seeing more calls for help around sports betting,” said River McKenzie, Program Manager at the Meridian Outpatient Problem Gambling Treatment Center at Emergence. “About six months ago, it took another big jump up and I would say in the last few months, maybe two, another jump up again, which does track with certain sports seasons, but also with the new available forms of gambling for sports betting.”
Some signs McKenzie said to look out for in possible gambling addictions include asking for money on a regular basis and missing social functions.
