The longtime face and voice for the Deadwood Gaming Association has stepped down. Health issues led to Mike Rodman’s recent departure as the group’s executive director.

That’s according to Susan Christian, executive secretary for the South Dakota Commission on Gaming that oversees Deadwood’s casinos. She told the state Gaming Commission on Tuesday that Deadwood Mountain Grand general manager Susan Kightlinger and Liv Hospitality CEO Caleb Arceneaux would step in on a temporary basis.

“And we’re terribly sorry to hear about Mike. He’s been a staple in Deadwood and we’re sad to not have him around,” Christian said.

He had served as DGA executive director since 2013.
