Six more Brazil gambling operators applied for licenses this week after the government warned it would start enforcement action from October. The country’s Ministry of Finance warned on Tuesday (17 September) it would treat any operator that had not applied for a license as illegal gambling from the new date.

It comes as Brazil puts the finishing touches on regulated gambling market, which will launch on 1 January after a complicated political journey.

The Prizes and Betting Secretariat (SPA) has committed to deciding on the initial 113 license applications by November. The six new applicants bring the total to 119.

While the ministry may not approve the six new businesses by market launch, the applications will mean the companies can continue operating past the 1 October deadline.
