Seven licensed gambling operators have been investigated or are currently under investigation in the Netherlands for failing to adequately protect players from excessive losses, Minister for Legal Protection Teun Struycken has confirmed.
Three of these investigations specifically concern extreme losses among young adult players.
The disclosure came as part of a letter Struycken sent to the House of Representatives, which includes an update on responsible gambling measures and details plans to tighten gambling legislation, expand enforcement powers, and overhaul the duty of care obligations for licensed providers.
The reforms aim to curb the rising normalization of gambling among young people and address addiction risks more effectively.
