The Reno City Council approved the use of millions of dollars in pandemic funding for a potential purchase of the Bonanza Inn.

The approval was part of about $9 million in pandemic funding that will go to the Reno Housing Authority for the Bonanza Inn, as well as a new apartment project aimed at veterans. The money comes from the city’s allocation of American Rescue Plan Act funds.

In addition to the pandemic funding, the city council also approved fee reductions for two affordable housing projects during the meeting.

“These projects represent an important step in the right direction to solving our housing challenges,” Reno Mayor Hillary Schieve said.
