Eight years and an independent investigation later, Star doesn’t have a licence to run its Sydney casino. And little has been done to convince Crawford, now running the renamed Independent Casino Commission, that the embattled group is ready to have it back.
On Monday, Crawford – the man who called the first inquiry into Star and a separate investigation into whether rival Crown Resorts was suitable to hold a Sydney licence – thrust himself back into the limelight.
He announced that Adam Bell, SC, who ran the first inquiry that led to a clean-out of Star’s board and executive team, would launch a second independent review into the casino that Crawford, the one-time chairman of Sydney law firm Henry Davis York, has overseen for the better part of a decade.
