Bronx Councilwoman Kristy Marmorato will have big sway over a project — currently a proposal by Bally’s — to build a casino on a golf course in her district.

It’s one of several proposals to build a casino in the New York City region that has become an extremely competitive process. They are all vying for one of three casino licenses up for grabs by the state.

Before Bally’s project can move forward, it needs Council approval for a zoning change. And typically, the City Council would defer to the local member on that decision — meaning Marmorato.

NY1 has learned that the Bronx councilwoman may have a conflict of interest.

Her brother, Mike Rendino, who is also the chairman of the Bronx Republican Party, worked for a Bally’s competitor — Sands Casino — as a community engagement consultant.
