The city of Keene could begin accepting thousands in donations from its sole casino as soon as December.
In a 3-1 vote Thursday night, councilors on the finance, organization and personnel committee recommended that the full council approve entering into a contract with Revo Casino and Social House on Emerald Street. Councilor Kris Roberts was the sole “no” vote. Councilor Michael Remy was absent.
In New Hampshire, casinos, or charitable gaming facilities, are required to donate 35 percent of their profits from table games and a portion of the revenue from slot machines to charity. Several area nonprofits, including the Keene Housing Kids Collaborative, Southwestern Community Services and Friends of the Keene Public Library, are already beneficiaries of the Keene casino’s donations.
