Casinos in New Hampshire are required to give money to charities, but a new law allows some cities and towns to get a cut.
Only two towns in New Hampshire have taken the casinos up on a chance to cash in on their earnings since the law was changed last year, and while those towns are still waiting to see how big of a check that will be, they say it will help offset the costs that come with casino businesses and clientele.
“Charities have always had the opportunity, so this added municipalities into the mix to participate,” said Cooley Arroyo, chief compliance officer of the New Hampshire Lottery.
The law requires that the 15 gaming facilities in the state donate 35% of their earnings each day.
