In early November, Missouri voters narrowly approved the legalization of sports betting. But Kansas City sports fans hoping to place a wager on the Chiefs or Royals may have to wait even longer to place a wager in the Show-Me State.
On Monday morning, the Missouri Gaming Commission confirmed the Missouri Secretary of State’s office had rejected emergency licensing rules.
“In the absence of emergency rules, our timeline is being pushed back months,” the Missouri Gaming Commission stated. “The Commission will proceed with our proposed licensing rules that were filed at the same time and will become effective August 30, 2025. In the meantime, Commission staff will continue working to ensure we meet the constitutionally required start date of sports wagering not later than December 1, 2025.”
