The prospects for a casino in Muskegon County aren’t dead yet as the tribe seeking it intends to resubmit an application to the federal government.

When Gov. Gretchen Whitmer in June refused to sign off on the Little River Band of Ottawa Indians’ proposal, it seemed the casino east of Muskegon was dead.

But tribal Ogema Larry Romanelli told MLive the support from the federal government is strong and the U.S. Department of Interior (DOI) encouraged the tribe to resubmit its application.

“The Department of Interior said, ‘Sure you can submit another package, and the timeline shouldn’t be as long – we know it has huge support from the community,’” Romanelli said.
