Months after getting city and federal approval to sell alcohol, the Mashpee Wampanoag Tribe’s First Light Casino in Taunton is now opening a bar, Taunton OECD Director Jay Pateakos announced.

“The new bar, which will eventually feature three slot machines built into it, plans to be open this weekend for beer and wine,” Pateakos, the director of the city’s Office of Economic and Community Development, wrote on LinkedIn on Friday, Jan. 16.

He said the bar “will provide another reason to… visit the Taunton casino.” The liquor license is a full liquor license and does not restrict the casino to just serving beer and wine. But the casino is opting just to sell beer and wine to start, Pateakos said.
