With legalized sports wagering expected to begin in Massachusetts before the end of the month, the state’s newly reelected treasurer is expressing skepticism about the potential revenue impact.
In-person betting is scheduled to begin on Jan. 31 at the three casinos: Plainridge Park Casino in Plainville, MGM Springfield and Encore Boston Harbor.
Mobile wagering will follow in early March.

In an interview for Sunday’s episode of On The Record, Treasurer Deb Goldberg said she estimates revenue from the industry will range between $35 million and $50 million per year. It’s an estimate she compared to the state lottery, which boasts a return of more than $30 billion to the state since selling its first ticket in 1972.
