The City of Springfield launched the Springfield Safe Ride Home Campaign, aimed at reducing impaired driving risks tied to alcohol consumption and gambling at MGM Springfield.
The campaign is funded through the Community Mitigation Fund, overseen by the Massachusetts Gaming Commission. This initiative seeks to prevent impaired driving and promote safety among casino patrons before, during and after their visits.
According to the City of Springfield, insights from a 2024 survey indicate that 37% of MGM Springfield patrons exhibit risky driving behaviors, while 27% hold misconceptions about driving safety after consuming three or more drinks.
Between 2018 and 2020, MGM Springfield was identified as the second-highest “last drink” location for Operating Under the Influence (OUI) adjudications, according to a Massachusetts Gaming Commission report.
