Massachusetts: Plainridge Park granted conditional sports betting license; Dave Portnoy’s connection to be investigated

It would be fair to say that, for now, the Gaming Commission has gotten over its concerns about Dave Portnoy.

“We are very comfortable with there being an investigation,” Jay Snowden, president of PENN Entertainment said. “Of course we would cooperate.”

On Tuesday Plainridge Park Casino was — sort of — granted their license to begin taking bets on professional and some college sports in January when the state’s new sports betting law will partially go live. Theirs is the third and final Massachusetts casino to receive an in-person bet-taking license, though regulators attached some conditions to the deal.

First and foremost Plainridge’s suitability to take bets will only be called “durable” under the law after the company works with the Investigations and Enforcement Bureau to see if Portnoy…might have a negative impact on the state’s problem gambling efforts and rules barring underage participation.
