MGM Springfield reported $22.47 million in gross gambling revenue from slot machines and table games in December.
That $22.47 million was up from $22.03 million in November 2022 and from $22.2 million recorded a year ago in December 2021, according to figures released Tuesday by the Massachusetts Gaming Commission. The gross gambling revenue was a paltry $11.3 million in December 2020 when COVID restrictions were still in place.
The December 2019 number was $18.9 million.
Nationally, casinos had a record year, according to a report released last week by the trade group American Gaming Association. In 2021, commercial gaming revenue nationwide was $53.04 billion — an annual record, the group said. By November 2022, gambling revenue had handily broken last year’s record with $54.93 billion and the month of December 2022 left to go.
