From 1954 to 2004, the MGP was, without a doubt, the most important event in Macau and the one that contributed most to creating the city’s tourist image.
In 2004, new casinos began to open, revenues skyrocketed, and the tourist offer diversified with a number of new and large-scale events. However, this did not diminish the significance of the Macau Grand Prix.
“I agree that it remains the most important event in Macau,” states Professor Lawrence Fong, Faculty of Business Administration. “The recent decade has seen some world-class races in MGP. They strengthen the international presence of Macau which is a hub connecting East and West.”
