Las Vegas’ job market started the year with mixed results, new data shows, as consumers more recently faced a surge in gas prices and other costs amid the war in Iran, further straining their finances.

Total employment in Southern Nevada ticked higher early this year, but the local jobless rate also rose, according to figures released this month by the Nevada Department of Employment, Training and Rehabilitation.

Overall, Las Vegas-area employment in January rose by 1,500 jobs since December, marking a 0.1 percent increase, the department reported, citing seasonally adjusted figures.

It also revised upward statewide job totals for the end of 2025, saying this contrasts with a downward revision nationally.
