Las Vegas bid farewell to the Eastside Cannery, in yet another explosive goodbye.
The hotel-casino on Boulder Highway in the eastern Las Vegas Valley had been closed since the onset of the pandemic, and demolition crews imploded its 16-story hotel tower at 2 a.m. Thursday.
Casino implosions in Las Vegas are often early-morning parties, with fireworks and masses of people gathering to watch and cheer the destruction.
The Eastside Cannery implosion, however, was not a public event, and there were no designated public viewing areas.
Still, several people were outside at a neighboring RV park to watch the building get toppled, and the Longhorn casino across the street tried to capitalize on the event.
