The new law legalizing sports betting in Kentucky calls for the system to be up and running six months from when it goes into effect, giving state regulators until the end of 2023 to get it launched.
A key state Senate leader hopes to make it happen sooner than that.
As majority floor leader, Kentucky Senator Damon Thayer (R-Georgetown) is the second-highest ranking Republican in the Senate, and he’s pushed for sports betting for more than five years.
The new law gives the Kentucky Horse Racing Commission six months to launch the system statewide once the law goes into effect in late June 2023.
