About a 40-minute drive from Cedar Rapids, Washington County nonprofits that rely on funding from Riverside Casino are bracing for tough times.
One market study shows Riverside Casino could lose nearly $34 million a year with business shifting to the new casino.
After years of pushing back on Cedar Rapids’ efforts for a casino, Washington County Riverboat Foundation says it is disappointed in the Iowa Racing and Gaming Commission’s decision to grant Linn County a license.
“It is devastating for rural Iowa nonprofit organizations, schools, city and county government agencies. While Linn County organizations gain, they take away from our rural community organizations, which face a loss of over $1 million a year,” Washington County Riverboat Foundation Executive Director Patty Koller said.
