The former head of the Iowa Racing and Gaming Commission will have a base salary of $450,000 when he becomes the CEO of Prairie Meadows Racetrack and Casino next year — more than 40% less than the current CEO’s base pay, which is among the highest for a nonprofit leader.
Brian Ohorilko, 44, left the commission in 2023 to become a senior vice president at Prairie Meadows. On Wednesday the Prairie Meadows Board of Directors approved Ohorilko’s three-year contract. He will take over when Gary Palmer, longtime CEO of the Polk County-owned casino, retires at the end of the year.
