The license holder for Dubuque’s casinos has helped form an organization aiming to block a proposed casino and event center in nearby Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

Members of the organization say the proposed casino would hurt economic development efforts in eastern Iowa, including the tri-state area.

Dubuque-area business organizations and local leaders have invested substantially in Dubuque’s two casinos — Q Casino and Diamond Jo Casino — in recent years. DRA, the casinos’ license holder, in turn directs nearly a quarter of the facilities’ revenues among the city of Dubuque, area nonprofits and the ongoing development of Chaplain Schmitt Island.
