The Evansville City Council approved a resolution to purchase ambulances and equipment with $7 million in casino funds.

The city will purchase 13 ambulances with a casino fund loan to be paid back by 2039. Officials say they hope to have the new ambulance service running by July of next year.

The move comes after the city announced earlier this year it was ending its contract with AMR and turning the emergency services over to the fire department. AMR will continue to service Vanderburgh County.
