An Aurora City Council committee has approved final plans for the Hollywood Casino resort on Farnsworth Avenue near Interstate 88, with developers saying work on the project should start before the end of the year.
Aldermen on the Building, Zoning and Economic Development Committee on Wednesday unanimously approved the plans and final plat. The City Council previously approved preliminary plans, so final plan approval is done at the committee level, although any alderman can appeal for a full council vote.
Approval paves the way for Penn Entertainment, Hollywood Casino’s parent company, to build a 225-room hotel, a casino with 1,200 gaming positions and a sports book, a 12,000-square-foot ballroom, a 2,500-square-foot outdoor courtyard for events, 4,500 square feet of meeting rooms, a spa and at least six restaurants.
