Gov. Kevin Stitt says he’s creating a path for sports betting in the state, but experts say his plan is far from reality.

They also say the governor’s proposal likely runs afoul of the central state-tribal gaming compact, which grants tribal nations exclusive gaming rights in exchange for paying Oklahoma millions of dollars in monthly fees.

According to Stitt’s plan announced late Thursday, he wants the state to license mobile sports betting operations, which would in return pay a 20% tax on revenues. He also said he would support tribal casinos adding sports betting in exchange for 15%.

“Thirty-five states have already legalized sports betting, and it’ll be a great revenue stream for the state,” Stitt said in a written statement.
