Concerns over the impact of the UK’s new gambling tax on Gibraltar have been raised in the UK Parliament. The Treasury acknowledged the issue, but offered few specifics in response.

The issue emerged in written questions, when Labour MP Gareth Snell asked what discussions had taken place with the Government of Gibraltar following the announcement of the new Remote Betting Duty.

Responding on behalf of the Chancellor, Exchequer Secretary Dan Tomlinson said the increase in gambling duties is expected to raise more than one billion pounds a year for the UK and confirmed that engagement with Gibraltar had taken place after the UK Budget.
