Bestbet is returning to its roots in St. Johns County with plans to construct a new gambling facility near State Road 207 in St. Augustine.
The county issued the Jacksonville-based company a building permit July 15 for a 40,673-square-foot poker room and simulcast wagering complex at 800 Marketplace Drive, just off I-95 on the site of the former St. Augustine Flea Market.
Bestbet began as a gambling facility/greyhound racing track in the 1980s at its first location on Race Track Road in northern St. Johns County. The site was vacated nearly a decade ago, even before Florida voters approved a ban on greyhound racing by constitutional amendment in 2018.
