Ohio is now less inviting to parasites. Specifically the sports betting companies that have invaded the state since legalized gambling in Ohio was broadened to cover sports.

The Blade has been opposed to sports betting as an addictive vice separating gamblers from money that would provide them and the entire community far better results spent on something of enduring value or saved for a rainy day.

The recently passed Ohio budget doubles the state take on sports gambling from 10 percent to 20 percent of revenues.

As we said when this idea was floated in February, when it comes to addictive vices such as gambling, drinking, and smoking, high taxes are needed to offset the cost to the community of that activity.
