To understand why it’s important for MGM Springfield to begin living up to its promises, it’s important to recall why establishing the casino attracted a significant minority of opposition in the first place.
It wasn’t only people opposed to gambling. Many foes said MGM was making lofty promises to get its foot in the door, without the intention of keeping them.
Nothing stings advocates of the casino more, or is more unfair to them, than when the opponents can cite evidence they were right.
Let’s take MGM Resorts International CEO and President William Hornbuckle at his word. To his credit, Hornbuckle came to Springfield and said MGM had misjudged the business potential here.
