Approximately 30 gambling machine operators filed a complaint with the San Juan Court of First Instance, alleging that the Puerto Rico Gaming Commission has refused to receive, process, and award their license applications, a situation they claim keeps them excluded from the industry.
The plaintiffs’ attorney, Frank Torres Viada, explained in an interview with El Vocero that the commission was undergoing a restructuring process to legalize gambling machines operating outside the legal framework and to grant up to 25,000 licenses.
He indicated that, although not explicitly stated in the complaint, Law 111 establishes priority for obtaining new licenses for operators who previously held licenses.
