The Lions are not playing in Super Bowl LX this Sunday, nor is Ford Field the site of the championship game, but the event will likely bring a big payoff for the city of Detroit in the form of tax dollars.

The tax revenue from sports betting and internet gaming connected to Detroit’s three casinos has become a key source of income for the city, according to city and state data. The money, now the second-highest source of revenue for the city of Detroit behind its income tax, helps pay for police officers, firefighters, road plowing and a host of other basic services.
