Unionized workers at the three Detroit casinos are set to vote Friday on whether to authorize potential strikes for when their labor contracts expire later next month.
Workers have been in negotiations since early September with the casinos — MGM Grand Detroit, MotorCity and Hollywood Casino at Greektown.
The authorization vote comes at a time when more than 18,300 UAW members are on strike in Michigan and 20 other states, as well as another 1,000-plus UAW members employed with Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan.
If the casino workers vote in favor or authorization, the Negotiating Committee of the Detroit Casino Council could call for strikes as soon as mid-October, when the current contracts expire.
