An opening date has been set for the new gambling and entertainment center that will occupy the former Wichita Greyhound Park.

The property that was initially called the Golden Circle historic horse racing facility is now being called Gilley’s and is scheduled to open on Dec. 15. Developed by Wichita businessman Phil Ruffin, the facility will feature around 1,000 historic horse racing machines.

The machines resemble and operate similarly to slot machines, but use the results of historical horse races, randomized to create the outcomes of each spin. In 2023, the Kansas Legislature approved Ruffin’s plan to remodel his former Wichita Greyhound Park to include space for the new slots, along with a Gilley’s Saloon, Dance Hall & Bar-B-Que, like the one currently found in Ruffin’s Las Vegas Treasure Island Resort and Casino.
