The Quebec government has announced plans for a new $50-million convention centre in Gatineau, Que., on the Casino Lac-Leamy complex grounds in the city’s Hull district.
Work on the 100,000 square-foot project, being financed by Loto-Québec, is estimated to last two years. Details of the project were unveiled at a press conference Sunday.
The convention centre will give Gatineau modern and spacious facilities that will meet the region’s business and tourism needs, according to a French-language news release from the province.
Caroline Proulx, the province’s tourism minister, said in French at Sunday’s announcement that the project will have “zero impact on citizens’ taxes” since it’s being financed by Loto-Québec.
