For three decades, ever since a blowhard developer named Donald Trump made a racist remark about Native Americans as he and Mayor Joe Ganim tried to open a casino, Bridgeport has come up on the losing end of the gambling craze.
That might change soon, with an announcement coming in the next few weeks that Total Mortgage Arena will be home to an in-person sports betting location under the Connecticut Lottery Corp. banner.
It’s not a casino but this looks more real than previous Bridgeport hopes.
Bridgeport’s bad luck in gambling is not for lack of trying. The state’s largest city lost its bid for state approval of an MGM casino on the harbor in 2018.
