The Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation said Tuesday it appointed its first tribal member as president and chief executive officer of Foxwoods Resort Casino.

Jason Guyot has been interim CEO since April 2020. He was credited for leading the casino through one of its most difficult years when it was closed from mid-March to June 1 and reopened at less than full capacity due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Rodney Butler, chairman of the Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation, which owns Foxwoods, referred to Guyot as “our first Pequot CEO.”

“This is a special milestone for Foxwoods as well as our tribal family,” he said.

Guyot, 42, led Foxwoods’ COVID-19 response, developing and putting in place Foxwood’s safety measures for health and wellness hospitality protocols, the Mashantucket Pequots said. And he is credited for accelerating Foxwoods’ shift to a destination resort from a “gaming-centric outlet.”

“As a tribal member, I’m equally grateful for the opportunity to contribute toward the future success of our tribal nation,” Guyot said.
