State regulators are cracking down on illegal gambling machines, warning that the devices are designed to steal players’ money.

Investigators seized six machines and $900 in cash from four locations in December 2024, the Department of Consumer Protection said in a news release on Thursday, Feb. 6. Officials didn’t say where the slots were found.

Slot machines are only legal in Connecticut through Foxwoods Resort Casino and Mohegan Sun Casino.

One illegal machine confiscated had collected $191,359 but paid out only 66 percent to players. In comparison, regulated slot machines and online casino games must return at least 80 percent over time.
