Strong labor markets have helped keep consumers upbeat about the economy. But some Americans seem to feel their luck is running out.
37% of consumers say they plan to spend less on gambling and lottery games over the next six months, according to the Conference Board’s latest survey, while 10% say their gambling habits will increase.
By comparison, nearly a quarter of consumers are aiming to up their spending on hotels and motels, and a similar share plan to spend more on healthcare.
The planned pullback in gambling—which had the most downbeat outlook of the survey’s categories—likely has much to do with the recent wrap of the NFL season and the coming end of March Madness.
