Almost $29 million was wagered in North Carolina on the very first day sports betting became legal, and near $200 million was wagered the first week alone.

With NC State, UNC and Duke all part of March Madness, many sports fans are excited to not only watch the games but to have a stake in the outcome.

Sports fans are already passionate, but when you add money to the mix, it’s on another level. Over the past 17 days, college athletes have seen more troubling messages when someone misses a leg of their parlay.

“I thought I played a pretty good last game, but I looked at my DMs, and I got over 100 messages telling me I suck and stuff like that because I did not get enough rebounds,” said UNC basketball player Armando Bacot.
